Judging from the preparations, the 7th ICCIE has outstanding cultural spirit of the times, with its theme clearly demonstrated. Inheriting and developing the excellent national culture, innovative integration of culture with science and technology, building a platform for cultural exchange, and promoting Chinese culture to go global, these have become the core connotations and the clearest foci of the present ICCIE.
1) Display in a comprehensive manner the achievements of cultural system reform, highlighting the vitality of innovative development by multivariate cultural subjects
Along with the progress of China's cultural system reform, the pattern of cultural market has distinct expression at the present ICCIE, in which the state-owned cultural enterprises play the leading role and the small and medium-sized cultural enterprises form the basis to achieve common development of a variety of ownership systems. A number of central and local state-owned cultural organizations, which have realized the successful transformation into enterprises in the reform of the cultural system, joined the ICCIE collectively. China Acrobatics Troupe, China Puppet Theater, Beijing Publishing Group, Beijing Radio and TV Station, Anhui Xinhua Publishing Group, Anhui Radio and TV Group will display their new-content cultural products through integration of resources and collectivized brand development. Private cultural enterprises that have achieved rapid growth in the reform and opening up of the cultural market have come on the stage in a massive manner. A group of key private cultural enterprises such as Enlight Media, Perfect World, ChangYou, Hanwang, Unisrobo, Hairun Film, and Red Horse Media will display their leading innovative cultural products in animation, film, and publishing.
2) Give prominence to new technologies, new products, and new business formats that integrate culture with science and technology to grasp the new trend of the development of cultural industry
The present ICCIE will highlight new products and new business formats featuring the integration of culture with science and technology. The pavilions at the main exhibition venue including radio and television, creative design, press and publication will focus on displaying the new business formats and high-tech cultural products in digital broadcasting, digital television, network publishing, all media publishing, digital animation, cartoon, etc. The high-tech cultural products that can be seen everywhere will enable visitors, in the interaction, to experience the charm of high-tech cultural life. These products include: the new digital publishing and distributing technology through the satellite transmission channel by Beijing Aerospace Media; the first cloud newspaper by Jinghua Times; the digital community that integrates digital reading and high-definition digital application system at the pavilion of digital library; Chinese Movie Paradise—the theme park that provides the world’s first in-depth interactive TV experience that is put on show in the Daxing sub-venue; etc.
Cultural products with distinctive characteristics of inheritance and innovation will become the highlights of the ICCIE. The Arts and Crafts Pavilion will exhibit more than one hundred pieces of exquisite handicrafts led by palace arts of “eight craft classes of Yanjing” by nearly 40 state-level and Beijing city-level masters. An exhibition area will be set up for the handicrafts created by masters teaching apprentices and college students, which will showcase more than 100 pieces of art works featuring inheritance and the cross-sector integration of traditional techniques with modern creative ideas. The National Museum and Prince Gong’s Mansion that participate in the ICCIE for the first time will spare no efforts to show the “palace culture”. A large number of intangible cultural heritages with unique ethnic characteristics will be displayed in a concentrated manner, showing the development trend of expanding the cultural market with the help of modern science and technology by various regions.
3) Exert all efforts to build an interactive platform for various production factors of culture to promote the construction of the cultural market system
The present ICCIE will promote the combination of cultural creative industry and financial capital. During the ICCIE, a series of trade promotion activities featuring investment and financing will be held, including “Project Signing and Brand Promotion Activities in Cultural and Financial Innovation” and “Promotion of Beijing Cultural and Creative Industry Investment and Financing Projects”. “Negotiation Fair of Business Opportunities in Chinese Art Trade”, which is held for the first time, will open a special platform for financial capital to enter the art market. “Forum on the Development of the Cultural Industry in the Capital City” will focus on the investment and financing development for the cultural industry, conducting in-depth exploration of the trends, strategies and opportunities of China’s cultural industry. The pavilion of radio, film and TV will set up a special finance area, and many agreements of cooperation between banks and enterprises are expected. The National Innovation Center of Cultural Finance which is created by Beijing’s Xicheng District through gathering the resource advantages of the Financial Street will make its first appearance. Many financial institutions will launch their specific cultural finance products for cultural enterprises.
The cultural market will unfold in many aspects. A large number of market intermediary agencies including China Design Market, International Copyright Trading Center, companies of cultural communication, and Auction Association will enter the ICCIE to show the trading results and promote service modes. China Design Market will organize on-site docking activities for design enterprises to facilitate the promotion and popularization of the design trading platform. “Forum on the Industrial Development during the Beijing Auction Season” that is set up for the first time will conduct in-depth discussion on “the deep-going impact of the financial situation on the auction market” and the standard development of the auction industry.
Large-scale communication and promotion of cultural and creative talents, and the exploration into the mechanism of promoting the emergence of creative talents constitute a bright spot of the present ICCIE. Beijing College Students’ Creativity Fair endeavors to discover and cultivate innovative talents through such competitions as garment design, industrial design and graphic originality. Beijing Youth’s Cultural and Creative Festival will organize such activities as the exhibition of excellent cultural and creative works by young people from home and abroad, popular science drama show, and Beijing New Rural Youth’s Original Agricultural Design Contest. “Fair on Cross-Strait Inter-City Cooperation of Cultural and Creative Industry Talents”, which is held for the first time, aims to promote the deep-going development of the cross-strait cultural and creative cooperation from product trade, project cooperation and the landing of enterprises to the introduction and exchange of talents.
4) Promote a number of projects with broad market prospects to contribute to the construction of new innovative carriers of cultural science and technology
The present ICCIE brings together more than 1000 major industrial projects for global investment. More than 100 national-, provincial- and municipal-level cultural and creative industrial parks and clustering zones will make their appearance in a concentrated manner, demonstrating their good market environment as a new innovative carrier of cultural science and technology. Various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities will bring projects with regional advantages and characteristics to the ICCIE. Among them, Jilin province will bring projects of the cultural industry with a total amount of more than 3 billion yuan. "Jilin Northeast Asia Cultural and Creative Science and Technology Park", which is designated as a national experimental park this year, will make its first appearance. The park is a high-end cultural industry incubation platform owned by private capital to provide services for the Northeast Asia region. Gansu Pavilion focused on the introduction of the cultural industry zone of the Silk Road and Southeast Gansu base of historical culture, Hexi Corridor ecological cultural base, Lanzhou metropolitan cultural industry base with Fu Xi culture, Dunhuang culture, and the Yellow River culture at the core. Anhui province, for the first time, invested about 1.2 billion yuan to launch the project of "Ecological Park of Lao Zi Culture", building an international Taoism tourist resort. The art exhibition of Taiwan Songshan Cultural and Creative Park will showcase the cultural and creative products and cultural enterprises with rich island culture, promoting projects and looking for cooperative partners.
Dozens of cultural and creative industrial parks and clustering zones in the 12 districts and counties of Beijing including Dongcheng, Xicheng, Haidian, Chaoyang, Changping, etc., will attend the ICCIE in a concentrated manner, giving a comprehensive display of the new image of high-end, concentrated and functional development of the cultural and creative industries. Among the first batch of national demonstration bases of cultural science and technology, Z-Park will fully display its industrial achievements focusing on digital content and cultural equipment. The projects created by various districts and counties in recent years, including the China (Beijing) Industrial Park for Innovative Publishing, National New Media Industrial Base, Xingguang TV Programs Production Base, National Advertising Industrial Park, CBD-Dingfuzhuang International Media Industry Corridor, China (Daxing) Industrial Design Base, Nanhaizi Park Industrial Zone, Huairou Movie and Television City and Producer Headquarters Base, the International Garden Expo Garden, Chinese Traditional Opera Cultural Center, Lugou Bridge Cultural and Creative Industry Clustering Area, Ming Tombs Culture and Creative Industrial Zone, while displaying their development fruits in a comprehensive way, will invite domestic and foreign investment and cooperation.
5) Promote the new achievements in culture benefiting people to encourage and guide cultural consumption
It can be seen everywhere that the present ICCIE leads the cultural fashion with rich fruits of culture benefiting people. The Red Star Dream Works Pavilion of the Creative Design exhibition, as the platform for the industrialization of Red Star Award, highlights the Red Star Award winning products that are related to people’s basic necessities of life, enabling the international design award winning works to benefit people’s life. The sports pavilion, taking fashionable life as the main line, while displaying new sports equipment, demonstrates fashionable sports modes. The Engraving Arts Fair set up in 798 Art District exerts itself to develop a market for engraving arts, enabling the works of masters and art derivatives to enter households to enhance the level of public appreciation and cultural consumption. Fun and interaction constitute a major feature of the present ICCIE. At the Garden Fair Pavilion, the mascot, an intelligent robot, as one of the gifts from the Garden Fair, will chat with the audience and sing songs. Animation & Game Exhibition will display an intelligent desktop interactive doll robot, adding another doll "New favorite desktop" for consumers. In the pavilions of tourism and museums, the audience can watch the performance of intangible cultural heritages, appreciate "Beijing gifts", experience museum tours, tour of exotic foods, tour of Chinese medicine culture, and enjoy the fun of staying in a Beijing quadrangle and eating Beijing food.
6) Promote international cultural exchange to help Chinese culture go global
The present ICCIE will be more internationalized. The Office of the Organizing Committee has invited international professional organizations and government agencies, buyers and investors from countries and regions of Europe, the United States, Japan, Korea, etc. whose cultural industries are well developed to participate, promoting cultural trade and helping Chinese culture “go global”. The Film and Television Pavilion sets up a special "going global" area for the first time. Six private cultural enterprises including Startimes Communication Network Technology Co., Ltd. which is the first company in China’s radio and television industry to be qualified for foreign project contracting, Blue Ocean Movie and Television Cultural (Beijing) Company which is the only Chinese TV media that has landed in Western mainstream communities to communicate Chinese content, Hairun Group whose works are exported to Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States, Beijing Gallop Horse Group which has successfully acquired Digital Kingdom, a top special effect company in the United States, will showcase their achievements in developing international markets. The Global University Creation Expo will collect works of creative design by outstanding creative teams of domestic universities and university students from 10 countries including the United States, Canada, Britain, Italy, etc. The 10th China International Expo of Internet Culture will, as a sub-venue of the ICCIE, set up a special development area to invite foreign Internet culture enterprises to display their products together, thus deepening the communication between domestic and foreign enterprises of Internet culture. Exhibition of Youth’s Cultural and Creative Achievements will display international cultural exchange results with such countries as the United States, Korea, Denmark, etc. The sub-venue of Taihu International Book Fair will hold promotion of books in Chinese and foreign languages, order placing fair for publications in Chinese and foreign languages, cross-strait order placing fair for Taiwan books, etc., and organize discussions on “effective ways to develop the international markets of books”. Promotion of Beijing Cultural Enterprises to Develop Overseas Markets will focus on interpreting relevant policies, introducing successful experiences, and exploring the development trend, so as to help cultural enterprises "go global”.
